Last Year's Academy Awards
The King's Speech Wins Best Picture, 3 Other Oscars
February 27th, 2011 -- Picking up steam and popularity since its limited release in December, THE KING'S SPEECH claimed the ultimate prize on Feb. 27th, outdueling Golden Globe winner THE SOCIAL NETWORK and winning 4 Oscars, including Best Picture, at the 83rd annual Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood.
In addition to the big prize, THE KING'S SPEECH took home Best Director (Tom Hooper), Actor (heavy favorite Colin Firth) and Original Screenplay honors. Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller, INCEPTION, also won four Oscars, including Cinematography, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing and Sound Effects.
David Fincher's SOCIAL NETWORK took home three trophies, for its Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing and Original Score. Natalie Portman as expected was named Best Actress, while Christian Bale and Melissa Leo of THE FIGHTER won for Supporting Actor and Actress. TOY STORY 3 was named Best Animated Feature and also won for Best Original Song.

The Hurt Locker Wins Best Picture, 5 other Oscars
February 27, 2010 -- Kathryn Bigelow's powerful Iraq war drama, THE HURT LOCKER, emerged as the top winner, taking home 6 Oscars, including Best Picture, at the 82nd annual Academy Awards, outdueling James Cameroun's record-breaking AVATAR. Both films entered the evening leading the field with 9 nominations each.
In addition to the big prize, THE HURT LOCKER earned Bigelow the first ever Best Director trophy for a woman, and also took home Original Screenplay, Editing, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing awards. AVATAR, the most succesful film ever at the box office, won 3 Oscars, for Cinematography, Art Direction and Visual Effects.
Jeff Bridges as expected won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in CRAZY HEART (now playing at Los Gatos), which also won for Best Song, while Sandra Bullock was named Best Actress for her turn in THE BLIND SIDE. Monique in PRECIOUS (which also won for Adapted Screenplay) and Christoph Waltz in INGLORIOUS BASTERDS took home the Supporting Actress and Actor awards.
